The car world may have been in melt down for the last year or three, but some things are beyond recession. Ultimate hypercars is one, and it seems there are as many uber-wealthy people on the planet who are willing and able to indulge their desires for the best there can be as ever. Of course, we’re talking minuscule numbers of people to make the whole hypercar circus work.
Lamborghini teased a new ‘Super Sports Car’ for Frankfurt last week, and we mulled over the possibilities of what Lamborghini were going to reveal. But what we didn’t consider was a last-hurrah for the Gallardo in the form of the Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo. We speculated that Lamborghini may be taking a production version of the Sesto Elemento to Frankfurt.
BMW today gave the green light for production of the dramatic Vision EfficientDynamics hybrid supercar shown at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show. Munich admitted today that the tech underpinning the concept car was 'completely or virtually production-ready' and said that the car will be launched very much as shown in Frankfurt. It has started roadgoing tests of the 2+2 EfficientDynamics sports car and its three-cylinder turbodiesel hybrid system.
